TransAtlantic Cable linkup with VO1TAC Hearts Content NF

September 17, 2016

Thanks to all members of KARG that participated in yesterday???s event from Valentia Island cable station. The event was a resounding success, with several QSO's made with VO1TAC (TransAtlantic Cable) operating from Hearts Content cable station on the 17M band. This proved to be the best choice due to contest activity on other bands.

Many other QSO's were also made during the event stretching from Indonesia to west coast USA.
We even worked a visiting US op John, all the way from California, operating from his car on Inch beach just across the water from us, on the Dingle peninsula. I also managed to work my good friend Mike KD2DYY, from the Sunday Irish hour net, which was great.

We would like to extend our thanks to Valentia Island Development Group for allowing us to use the cable station for this event, and we look forward to making the anniversary of the transatlantic cable an annual event.
Kerry also had two other cable stations, which came after the Valentia station, one in Waterville and one in Ballinskelligs, which makes this region very significant in communication history. The hexbeam and cobwebb antennas worked a treat. Some photos shown attached. Thanks again to the hardworking KARG team for making this a very successful event.

A new page has been added to the website specially for Valentia Transatlantic Cable, where the history of the station can be seen, as well as some recent photos of TAC link-up with VO1TAC. Also some photos from this event have been loaded on photos page.
