KARG Christmas Lunch and raffle

Unfortunately due to unforeseen weather conditions on Sat 5th Dec, the Christmas lunch and raffle will now be held a week later than planned, at the same venue and time.

Sat 12th Dec-----Muckross House Cafe-----12 noon

Any late change to this plan will be communicated via members group text.

As usual, all are very welcome.

KARG October Meeting and Christmas Dinner 2015

KARG Members met last Saturday at the Manor West Retail Park upstairs Cafe for their October monthly meeting. The meeting was well attended by members. The recent trip to the Irish Coastguard Radio Station at Valentia was discussed, where members had a fantastic day. Much thanks goes to the members of the ICG service for allowing KARG the opportunity to visit, and for showing us the operational side if the station. It was certainly a day to remember.

KARG Monthly Meeting 26th September 2015

The September meeting of KARG was held at Killarney on Sat 26th Sept at 11am. This meeting drew a good turnout of members as usual. Items discussed as follows,

1. The article from this years ILLW event, which appears in the current Echo Ireland was very well received, and credit was given to how well and professional it was written. Credit to John EI9ESB, 9FVB and XYL Caroline.

ILLW 2015

KARG will activate Cromwell Point Lighthouse at Valentia, Co Kerry once again over the weekend of August 15th and 16th.
It s planned to put on two stations over the full duration of the ILLW 2015 event, covering both phone and CW.

Operations will begin on Friday when set up will begin, until Monday when stations will be disassembled.

We already have a number of members participating, but visitors are very welcome to come along join on the fun also.

KARG July monthly meeting Sat 25th July - Killarney

The July KARG monthly meeting will be held on Saturday 25th July in Killarney at the upstairs meeting room at Presentation College(St Brigids Secondary School) Sports Hall, on New Street, next to the Cathedral in Killarney, at the usual time of 11am.

KARG participated in the recent IRTS VHF/UHF Field Day from Brosna (R11) as EI1K/p. Conditions were not very favourable, but the group had a very enjoyable time. A few other EI club stations were heard and worked.

40 Metres Counties Contest (17th May 2015)

A big congratulations to KARG members Billy EI7CQB and John EI9ESB on winning the SSB/CW Portable section of the recent IRTS 40M Counties Contest. They operated from Co Limerick using the EI1K/p callsign, and racked up a respectable score 3124, by making 43 QSO's and working 22 Counties, over the duration of the contest.

Geoparks Award

June 2, 2015

KARG have qualified for the Geoparks Communications weekend Award, for successfully working the required special event stations. Again this is a great achievement for the KARG, and participating members had great fun in chasing it.

Chasing special events and awards is always a good way to get some extra enjoyment from this great hobby, raising the profile of the KARG. We would encourage more members to try to get on the air more, and activate the club call as much as possible.

International Marconi Day 2015 Success and next events

New Tab for Marconi Station on website

In memory of John O Carroll, EI6AH, a new tab has been added to the website, with some history and photos of the original Marconi Station, in Ballybunion, along with the radio interview John did, and some letters he received.

Radio Experimenters in Kerry owe a lot to John, for keeping the history of the Marconi site alive, and it is our pleasure to keep this International Marconi Day event going, and maybe create some more history in the doing, in honour of John, EI6AH..
