September 2013 Club Meeting

The KARG monthly meeting for September will be held in Tralee at the Manor West upstairs cafe, as usual at 11am, on the last Saturday of the month, 28th Sept 2013.
 
Lots to discuss, such as ILLW activities, the recent Cork Radio Rally and future club activities.

New members as usual are very welcome.

ILLW 2013

Members,

The time is nearly upon us again for the annual ILLW weekend on 17th/18th Aug 2013.
The club has officially being issued the call EI 0 CPL (Cromwell Point Lighthouse) again for this year. We will have a lot more traffic, now that the lighthouse is open to the public, so it is a great opportunity to showcase our hobby.
It is envisaged that multiple stations will again be in operation on all bands/modes.

Official opening of Cromwell Point Lighthouse as Tourist Attraction

The official opening of Cromwell Point Lighthouse was performed on a Sunday 2nd June 2013, by the Valentia Island community group, The Commissioner of Irish Lights and the Kerry County Manager. KARG was represented at the opening, and demonstrated CW as well as providing information about KARG activities and amateur radio in general. Official Opening of Valentia Lighthouse as Tourist attraction

Per newspaper article in recent "Kerry's Eye", the lighthouse at Valentia will have an official opening to the public during the June bank holiday weekend, to coincide with the Transatlantic Communications and Light Gathering. Also all three communications elements on the island - the cable station, the coastguard radio station and the Lighthouse - will be explored through a series of lectures.

ILLW 2013

International Lighthouse & Lightship Weekend will take place on August 17th to 18th 2013, for 48 hours duration from 0001 UTC 17th Aug 2013. Again this year KARG plan to operate multiple stations from the usual venue at Valentia Lighthouse.

Members are asked to asked to pencil these dates in their diary, as members support is vital to making this such an enjoyable weekend. Concrete plans will be made over the next few months, regarding equipment and operating band plans.

ILLW Lighthouse Weekend 2012

The annual lighthouse weekend is over for another year. It was a great social occasion once again, with the odd bit of operating thrown in for good measure. We had a very good turnout of members and fun was had by all. Four stations were operational covering all modes and all bands, and some very fancy rigs and accessories were on display.

International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend 2012

The Kerry Amateur Radio Group intend to participate in the International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend this year.


As usual it is proposed to operate from our usual location at Cromwell Point lighthouse, Valentia Island, Co. Kerry. This will be the 7th year that the club has operated from the lighthouse (with kind permission from the Commissioner of Irish Lights) and this time we are asking club members to mark the weekend in their diaries. January 2012 News

Happy New year to all members and friends.
Our AGM was held in December 2011 and all existing officers are re-instated for the forthcoming year.

Plans are being discussed for 2012 events. Any suggestions or ideas are welcome and should be directed to the any club officer or member for discussion. It is hoped that KARG will hold more field days in 2012 that we did in 2011.

Plans are underway for a Marconi Day station on Sat April 21st 2012, so keep this date clear in your diaries !!
